One year anniversary of the Qinghai earthquake-Lamp Offering on April 14 @ 7:30pm

April 14, 2011 is the one year anniversary of the Qinghai earthquake. On that evening, at 7:30pm, Thrangu Monastery will perform a Lamp Offering for the victims who suffered from the Qinghai Earthquake that occurred one year ago. Please come and join us.

Qinghai Thrangu Monastery, the complete name of which is Qinghai Thrangu Tashi Choeling Monastery, is located 5km south of Jyekundo city, Yushu county, in Qinghai state.

Over the centuries, the monastery had been built through the hard work of the monks and local people. Unfortunately, the 1,300- year-old Thrangu Monastery was near the epicenter of the devastating 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Yushu County in northwest Qinghai (Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Region) on April 14, 2010.

The monastery was almost completely devastated, and 20 monks perished. After the quake, Thrangu Rinpoche sent twelve senior lamas who head centers of his around the world to help the people and to start the long process of rehabilitation and rebuilding. The monastery is now rubble. Many of the clay and wooden statues were destroyed.

In speaking of the tragedy, Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche said : "Now there has been the terrible earthquake in Jyekundo, Qinghai, and these structures have all been ruined. Additionally, many monks have passed away in the earthquake. This is a great tragedy and a great obstacle. Please think of this and make good prayers on the behalf of all those who passed away. If you gather merit by helping with the relief and restoration, it will be helpful for the world in general and in particular prevent the Dharma from disappearing. It is important that the lineage of teaching and practice not wane: Without a lineage of teaching and practice, the Dharma would perish."

Please join us in remembering this tragedy and offering aspiration prayers for the benefit of those connected with Qinghai Thrangu Monastery in the past, those remaining there in the present, and those that will connect with it in the future.
