Saga Dawa & Buddha’s Birthday

On June 16th, Thrangu Monastery Canada will be celebrating the birth of Buddha Sakyamuni, which took place on the seventh day of the fourth Tibetan calendar month (Saga Dawa).  This month is regarded as particularly holy to Buddhists because it sees the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana of the Buddha.

Throughout this month, it is encouraged for everyone to follow the steps of the Buddha by practicing as many virtuous deeds as possible.  These activities could include keeping a vegetarian diet, focusing on a particular Dharma practice, maintaining mindfulness, etc.  In short, it would be very beneficial to keep a pure body, speech, and mind.
