Dear Friends,
At this opening of this new year of the rabbit, are there any gardening thoughts arising in your minds? As the buds on our orchard trees begin to show themselves, several volunteers have begun some planning of the gardening that we can do on the farmland. Some have started cleaning out the greenhouses, but there is more to do. We want to invite your participation.
First, we have to organize the barn and move items from the greenhouses into the barn, including the many wonderful molds that were used to construct the monastery so that they are preserved for future buildings. We will segregate salable items from trash. Then, we can gather together and share our ideas for fruit, vegetables, medicinal and cooking herbs, and even planting nut trees.
The idea is that we can help feed the monastery, our families and the food bank. We would like to invite all members that are interesting in working on the garden to come to a meeting on Saturday, March 12 at 10:00 am to discuss cooperative farming possibilities and Sunday,13 at 10:00 continue if unable to finish. We suggest wearing boots, so that we can walk around and check out the greenhouses and the land, and bring work gloves as there are blackberry canes growing in the greenhouses that have there own thorny defenses. Any clippers or shears that can be brought for the day would also be of great assistance.
Given the rising prices of food, this is a wonderful opportunity to cultivate merit as well as vegetables!
With blessings,
Lama Pema Tsewang
